Governor's Challenge in Economics and Personal Finance

With the beginning of Virginia's required course in economics and personal finance, the Governor's Challenge provides high school students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in these areas and compete with student teams from around the Commonwealth.   Winning student teams in three divisions in an online competition are recognized and  invited to Richmond to participate in the Championship competition.

Mini-Economy

The Mini Economy is an experience-based instructional program used to teach the concepts of entrepreneurship, economics, and government in a classroom setting. Conducted as a unit of study this high energy simulation focuses on economic education, financial literacy, classroom management, and “real-world” market situations.

Stock Market Game™ Program

 

  Give students the chance to learn more about real life finances in a fun forum.  The Stock Market Game is an online education program used to help teach math, social studies, business, economics and language skills while focusing on the importance of long-term savings and investment.  Students in grades 4-12 participate in teams and manage a simulated investment portfolio.

Economic Educator Awards

The Virginia Council on Economic Educatoion annually recognizes teachers who demonstrate outstanding creativity and commitment to economic and financial education.  New this year is a Mini-Grant program for Title I schools, designed to assist teachers in expanding economic education in their classrooms.
