The Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE), founded in 1969,
is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 educational organization. Our
mission is to help students understand basic economic principles
and develop the decision-making skills needed to be informed citizens,
productive employees, and wise consumers. VCEE accomplishes this
mission by:
- Establishing educational standards
- Providing teacher training
- Developing curriculum
- Disseminating materials
- Evaluating results

- Economics is not a required course in Virginia schools but
is included in the Virginia History and Social Science Standards
of Learning. VCEE worked with the Department of Education for
the inclusion of economics in the standards.
- It has taken years to bring economics to curriculum importance
in K-12 education. VCEE has been the leader in this cause.
- All teachers are not required to have a background in economics
for licensure in Virginia.
- Professional development for teachers is scarce.
- VCEE partners with the business community and promotes the
interest of free markets.
- We are in a global marketplace. Our children must learn economics.
- Economic literacy feeds economic development and prosperity.
