Description
It is no secret that students (and adults) often have a hard time understanding the functions and policies of the Federal Reserve System. Half of this middle and high school workshop will be spent demonstrating practical, hands-on lessons necessary for teaching about the Fed in a way that students will understand and remember! Teachers will also be introduced to the vast array of FREE Federal Reserve Bank resources for teaching topics related to the U.S. banking system today. The second half of the workshop will answer all the essential banking questions about the Great Depression, and include a discussion with a Richmond Fed economist! Economics and personal finance will come alive through a variety of instructional strategies using the Fed’s comic books, games, videos, bookmarks, online simulations and more. Activities will also weave in writing, art, and the economic education and financial literacy objectives. The workshop will be taught by education specialists and an economist from the Richmond Fed.
