This is the second part of a two-part non-credit course covering all of the new economics SOLs. It will look at economic conditions – inflation, unemployment and economic growth—and how they affect individuals. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the role of the government in the US economy. Comprehension of how the economy works at this level of analysis provides the groundwork for you to help your students make more informed decisions as consumers, producers, savers, investors, employees, and citizens. Topics include: role of government, property rights, inflation, unemployment, economic growth and economic indicators, money, banking, macroeconomic goals (economic growth, full employment, price stability, etc.), the Fed, monetary and fiscal policy, absolute and comparative advantage, trade barriers, exchange rates, globalization and more.

Registration deadline is January 1, 2011.
Dates for course:
Weds. Jan 19, 26, Feb 2, 9, 16, 23, and March 2 from 4pm-7pm
Registration is complete after a check payable to VCEE for a $75 deposit is received by the ODU Center for Economic Education 2033 Constant Hall, Norfolk, VA 23529. The deposit will be returned uncashed after the participant completes the institute.
The room number will be posted on the TV information screen at the front entrance of the building.
Please park in LOT #3 (Special Events parking) to the right of the building. If you park anywhere else you will get a ticket.
Please be on time. Afternoon traffic tends to dramatically increase the amount of time it takes to get to the Higher Ed. Center.
